CONSECRATION FOR CATECHESIS: St. Eumenius of Gortyna

St. Eumenius of Gortyna shows us that salvation is conformity to Christ. Christ is the fulfillment of the Law, and thus, conformity to Christ perfectly fulfills the Will of God.

St. Eumenius shows us a temperance that triumphs over wealth and over the flesh through almsgiving and fasting. Almsgiving becomes spiritually fruitful only when we are convinced that we are giving to Christ, present in the poor. In this same way, almsgiving continues and extends the Mystery of the Eucharist in the world. Similarly, fasting only becomes fruitful when it is done in communion with Christ, with sincere faith and repentance, using His fasting as the model for our fasting.

St. Eumenius became "the city set on a hill" without intending to do so. We should place our eyes on Christ, turning them away from ourselves, and seek conformity to Him. If it is His will, He will make our light shine. But, if He does not, that is good too.
