СВІТ БУДЕ ДОРІКАТИ НАМ, КОЛИ МИ РОБИМО ДОБРО THE WORLD WILL BLAME US, WHEN WE DO GOOD

Брати й сестри у Христі—

Одного разу, у старішого чоловіка померла жінка, і він пробував довгий час продовжувати його життя нормально, але мав дуже великий жаль від загублених задоволень і перебував у великій депресії. Накінець, він найняв прибиральницю, щоб прибрати його квартиру, бо під час його депресії він дозволив майно́ві, щоб стати безладним. Нова прибиральниця була дуже молодою жінкою, яка мала добре серце і бажала допомогти старшому чоловікові не заради грошей, але заради щирої любови до ближніх.  Отже, дуже серйозно, вона почала́ приводити справи старшого чоловіка до ладу́ свідомо і уважно. Його письмовий стіл був дуже великим викликом до її здатности, бо вона не відкидала нічого, а тільки уважно класифікувала все у категорії, які були б помічни́ми старшому чоловікові. Проте, незважаючи на її тяжку працю, коли старий чоловік побачив лад, який вона створила, то був дуже сердитим. Він образив її, називаючи її «дурно́ю жінкою,» і навіть проклинав її, осоромлюючи її заради всього добра, яке вона зробила.

Once upon a time, an old man lost his wife, and he tried for a long time to continue his life as normal, but he had a very great sorrow, which took away the pleasure that he had in his interests and left him in a deep depression. In the end, he had to hire a maid to clean his apartment, since during the time of his depression, he had allowed his property to become disorderly. The new maid was a very young woman, who had a good heart and desired to help the elderly man not account of money, but on account of a sincere love of neighbour. Therefore, very seriously, she began to put the old man’s things in order, both conscientiously and carefully. His desk was a very great challenge to her abilities, since she discarded nothing, but carefully sorted everything in the categories, which would be helpful to the old man. Nevertheless, despite her hard work, when the old man saw the order that she had created, he was very angry. He insulted her, calling her “a stupid woman,” and even cursed her, making her feel ashamed on account of all the good that she had done.

У англійській мові, ми маємо при́повідку: «Кожне діло добросердечности, надане добровільно, завжди буде покараним.» Статечно, дуже часто, це правдиве. Сьогодні, у Євангелії, ми знайдемо подібну нагоду. Господь наш Ісус Христос робить дуже чудове діло добросердечности божественною Його владою, але, коли він робить те, раптом правитель синагоги дорікає Йому, тому що, правитель каже, Господь Ісус не доде́ржує закону Мойсея, бо Він зцілив жінку в суботу. 

In the English language, we have the proverb: “No unsolicited act of kindness will ever go unpunished.” Sadly, very often, this is true. Today, in the Gospel, we find a similar situation.  Our Lord Jesus Christ works a very marvelous deed of kindness by His Divine power, but, when He does this deed, immediately the ruler of the synagogue blames Him, because, the ruler claims, the Lord Jesus is not observing the Law of Moses, because he cured the woman on the Sabbath.

Знову і знову, під час Його цілого життя між нами, люди дорікали Господу нашому, бо Він завжди робив найкращі, моральні діла, але затьмарене людське сумління не пізнало їх, як добрі діла. Затьмарене сумління називає добро злом, а зло, добром.  Це затьмарене сумління навіть називало добрі Божі діла ділами Велзевуля, царя демонів, так, як ми бачимо у Євангелії від Святого Матея, в якому Господь каже: «Досить для учня, коли стане, як його вчитель, а слуга—як його пан. Коли господаря назвали Велзевулом, то скільки більше—його домашніх.» І подібним способом, Господь учням каже у Євангелії від Святого Йоана: «Ненавидить вас світ—то знайте: мене він ще перед вами зненавидів. Були б ви від світу, то світ би своє любив. А що ви не від світу, бо я вибрав вас від світу, ось тому й ненавидить вас світ. Згадайте слово, що його був я вам вирік: Слуга не більший від пана свого. Переслідували мене—переслідуватимуть і вас.»

Again and again, during His entire life among us, people blamed our Lord, since He always did the best and most moral works, but the darkened human conscience did not recognize them as good works. The darkened conscience calls good, evil, and evil, good. This darkened conscience even called the works of God, the works of Beelzebul, the king of demons, just as we see in the Gospel According to St. Matthew, in which the Lord says: “It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebul, then how much more his servants.” In a similar way, the Lord says to the disciples in the Gospel According to St. John: “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it has hated you. If you were of the world, then the world would love you as its own, but since you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I have spoken to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.”

Це пророцтво про наше церковне життя, бо світ завжди ненавидів Церкву, і світ називає добрі церковні діла—злими, бо те ж і саме затьмарене сумління продовжує робити між людьми навіть до цього дня.  Наприклад, ми знаємо про африканську суперечку про презервативи. Світ (тобто, Обєднані Нації та Організація Світового Здоров’я) продовжує заохочувати уживання презерватів, хоча весь доказ показує те, що вони є неефективними, щоб зупинити епідемію СПІДу. Проте, незважаючи на нездоланний доказ, світ настійно вимагає те, що церковна віра є злою, тому що ми віримо у те, що уживання презерватів є неетичним. Подібним способом, світ називає церковну віру—злою і нетерпеливою, коли ми сповідуємо те, що гомосексуалізм є по-суті розладнаним. Проте, найвище добро для Святої Церкви не є терпеливістю, а любов’ю. Щоб бути терпеливими небезпечної поведінки між іншими людьми,-- це не є любов’ю. Ні, замість цього, любов потребує те, що ми навчаємо правди навіть тих, котрі не хочуть чути її.

This is a prophecy about our life as a Church, since the world always has hated the Church, and the world calls the Church’s good works, evil, because the very same darkened conscience continues to work among human beings even to this day.  For example, we know about the African controversy surrounding the use of condoms. The world (namely, the United Nations and the World Health Organization) continues to encourage the use of condoms, although all the evidence shows that they are ineffective in stopping the epidemic of AIDS. Nevertheless, despite the overwhelming evidence, the world insists that the Church’s faith is evil, because we believe that the use of condoms is unethical. In the same way, the world calls the Church’s faith evil and intolerant, when we profess that homosexuality is intrinsically disordered. Nevertheless, the highest good for the Holy Church is not tolerance, but love. Being tolerant of the harmful behaviour of others is not loving. No, rather, love requires that we teach the truth even to those, who do not want to hear it.

Так, як це правдиве про Церкву, це також правдиве про кожного з нас. Якщо ми є вірними Господу Христу, багато разів світ буде дорікати нам, називаючи наші добрі діла –злими. Хоча наша мета є тим, щоб приносити всесвіт і всіх людей до Бога Отця через Ісуса Христа, проте, ми повинні пізнати те, що багато людей не будуть чути записку Святого Євангелія задля сердечної твердости. Нам треба бути наполегливими у молитві й добрих ділах, настійно вимагаючи правди, тому що тільки Бог може зцілити сердечну твердість, відповідаючи на наші молитви, через співпрацю Його божественної благодаті з нашою людською, свобідною волею. 

Just as this is true concerning the Church, so it is also true about each of us. If we are faithful to the Lord Christ, many times the world will blame us, calling our good works, evil. Although our goal is to bring the entire universe and all people to God the Father through Jesus Christ, nevertheless, we should recognize that a lot of people will not hear the message of the Gospel on account of hardness of heart. We need to be persevering in prayer and good works, insisting on the truth, because only God can heal hardness of heart, in answer to our prayers, through the correspondence of His divine grace with our human free will.
