Бог кличе нас щомиті God is calling us from moment to moment

 

Сьогодні в Євангелії ми чули розповідь про те, як Господь покликав Своїх перших учнів, двох братів Андрія та Симона Петра та синів Зеведеєвих Якова та Івана. З пізніших уривків Євангелія ми знаємо, що, коли Господь Ісус обрав Своїх апостолів, ці учні були виділені першими членами Апостольської колегії та внутрішнього кола привілей́ованих послідовників навколо Господа. Власне, троє членів цієї групи перебувають поруч із Господом у різні вирішальні моменти Його земного життя: Його Преображення та Його муки в Гетсиманському саду, а також воскресіння доньки Яіра.

Today in the Gospel reading we heard the account of Our Lord calling His first disciples, two sets of brothers, Andrew and Simon Peter and the sons of Zebedee, James and John. We know from later passages in the Gospels that, when the Lord Jesus selected His Apostles, these disciples were singled out to be the first members of the Apostolic College and the inner circle of privileged followers around the Lord. In fact, three members of this group are close to the Lord at various crucial moments of his earthly life: His Transfiguration and His agony in the garden of Gethsemane, as well as the resurrection of the daughter of Jairus.

The Lord Jesus summons these first of His faithful disciples and they respond with alacrity and generosity. This account of the vocation of the disciples gives us an opportunity to meditate upon the ways that God is calling us in our lives, and to reflect as well upon the quality of our response.

Перш за все, ми повинні знати, що Бог кличе. Він кличе нас постійно, від моменту до моменту нашого життя, закликаючи залишити темряву гріха та смерті та піти за Ним до нового життя. First of all, we must be aware that God calls. He calls to us constantly, from moment to moment in our lives, summoning us to leave the darkness of sin and death and follow Him to newness of life. Every moment of every human life contains the summons of God to salvation, to everlasting life in His presence. Most of these summonses we do not so much as hear, because we are preoccupied by the concerns of this temporary existence. This is the reality that we hear about in the Parable of the Banquet. God’s banquet, the wedding feast of His Son, is prepared. He sends a summons to those who are invited, the whole human race, but they all begin to make excuses: “I have bought oxen” or “I have bought land” or “I have just gotten married.” We submerge ourselves in busyness, obsessed with the decaying things of the present, passing age.

Саме в цьому контексті мудра порада святого і духовного письменника ХХ століття Піо з П’єтрельчіни має видатний сенс. Своїм духовним дітям він радив: «Просто моліться і не хвилюйтесь».

Yet, while this is true, it is not the case that we are at all “present” in the present moment that this life gives to us. If we really tried to be aware of the circumstances of the present moment, we would realize the temporary nature of this world and that its meaning is beyond it, outside it. Being fully aware of the present moment gives us a longing for the Heavenly Kingdom. No, rather, we are distracted not by our circumstances but by our cares. God reveals Himself to us in the present moment, but we do not encounter Him, because of our thoughts. It is our cares that weigh us down and keep us from seeing the true meaning of this present, temporary age. It is in this context that the sage advice of the twentieth century saint and spiritual writer Pio of Pietrelcina makes eminent good sense. He used to counsel his spiritual children: “Just pray, and don’t worry.”

Погляньмо на цей світ ясними очима. Ми, люди, у нинішній час подібні до ходячих трупів без Божої благодаті. Ось, всесвіт тління людського життя в цьому світі. Подивіться, як руйнуються всі стосунки в житті, навіть найпростіші. Матер́і вбивають дітей у їхніх утробах. Чоловіки виходять заміж за чоловіќів, а жінки за жінок, і вони називають це добре. Люди, особливо молоді, настільки відчужуються навіть від самих себе, що дівчата прагнуть бути хлопчиками, а хлопчики хочуть бути дівчатками, і вони починають вірити, що зміни, яких вони прагнуть, насправді досяжні. Усе це є демонічна омана, яка походить від забуття Бога. Ми забуваємо про Бога, Який любить нас, хоча Він тут і зараз, закликаючи нас до життя з Ним у Його Царстві.

Let us look around at this world with clear eyes. We human beings in this present age are like walking corpses without the grace of God. Behold, the universe decay of human life in this world. See the way that every relationship in life is breaking down, even the most basic. Mothers murder the children within their wombs. Men marry men and women marry women, and they call it good. Human beings, especially the young, are becoming so alienated even from their very selves that girls long to be boys and boys desire to be girls, and they come to believe that the change they seek is actually achievable. All of these things are demonic delusion that comes from forgetfulness of God. We are forgetful of the God Who loves us, even though He is here, now, summoning us to life with Him in His Kingdom.

А тому, брати і сестри у Христі, повільніше! Робіть те, що ви робите, з усвідомленням присутності Бога. Не губись у своїх думках. Бог Творець – Еммануїл. Він з нами. Він серед нас і всередині нас.

And so, brothers and sisters in Christ, slow down! Do what you’re doing with awareness of the presence of God. Do not get lost in your thoughts. God the Creator is Emmanuel. He is with us. He is amongst us and within us.
